It can be very frustrating and stressful for brides to plan for their own weddings. Because it is one of the most important events in a woman’s life, every aspect including every minute detail in the wedding has to be planned and ready before the big day. This can cause anxiety and stress and can sometimes even make the bride think twice about pushing through with the wedding. Thankfully, a bride’s maid of honor can help her through this because she has many maid of honor duties that are for the bride’s best interest.
A maid of honor is chosen because she is among the bride’s most trusted friends and she is one of her most trusted confidantes. With this in mind, there are several maid of honor duties she should follow to make sure the wedding pushes through without any hitches.
Most of the work of a maid of honor is done before the wedding. This period can be a roller coaster ride for the bride and therefore the maid of honor should always be there for her. Maids of honor should be advised though that this period can also take its toll on them because it can be very stressful and frustrating if things don’t go as planned.
Maid of Honor Duties – Before the wedding.
The maid of honor is responsible for important duties including:
• Helping the bride find suitable locations for her wedding
• Helping the bride choose and prepare wedding invitations
• Asking for favors from wedding guests
• Helping the bride choose decorations that will be used in the reception as well as wedding flowers
• Accompanying the bride while shopping for the wedding dress and the dresses of the bridesmaids
• Making sure the bridesmaid dresses are tidy before the big day
• Helping the bride register her wedding
• Informing important friends and family about where the couple is registered
• Helping the bride in making a seat plan or a seat arrangement
• Planning for and hosting a bachelorette party or a bridal shower as well as bridal shower games
• Receiving and organizing the gifts during the bridal shower
• Organizing important meetings and plans with the bridesmaids
• Coordinating with the bridesmaids in case there are prewedding activities that need them
• Helping the bride disseminate information regarding adjustments to schedules or other plans
• Helping the bride choose a wedding cake
• Attending and helping out with the rehearsal as well as the rehearsal dinner
• Choosing a wedding gift that is perfect for the couple
• Preparing a checklist that helps organize the wedding day by listing items and tasks that will be needed on the big day.
• Last, but not least, the maid of honor should guide the bride when she is down or when she needs someone to listen to her. This is probably the most important of all the maid of honor duties.
Maid of Honor Duties – On the wedding day.
During the wedding, the maid of honor plays important roles including:
• Making sure the bride arrives in the ceremony with everything needed so that the wedding doesn’t go through any hitches
• Helping the bride put on her dress and apply makeup
• Making sure the bridesmaids are well dressed and their make ups are presentable
• Acting as a messenger in case the bride wants to communicate with anyone in her entourage, family, or friends
• Visiting and monitoring the reception area to make sure everything is prepared
• Helping the bride enjoy privacy if she needs some time alone before the official ceremony starts
• Making sure the bride’s veil and train are attached appropriately
• Signing the marriage license together with the best man as witnesses
• Being the brides right-hand during the ceremony
• Keeping the bride calm throughout the ceremony
• Keeping the bride’s bouquet while the ceremony is taking place
• Keeping the groom’s ring at all times before it has to be given to the bride
• Keeping track of the gifts during the reception together with a bridesmaid if possible
• Playing hostess with the bridesmaids during the reception
• Making sure the bride doesn’t go hungry or thirsty throughout the whole wedding day
• Making a toast at the wedding party after the best man makes his -This is your moment, the Maid Of Honor Speech!
• Keeping the bride and groom’s money bag or gift envelopes safely in her possession during the entire day
• Helping the bride change for the honeymoon and keeping the gown in her possession until the bride returns from the honeymoon
• Most importantly, keep the bride happy and do whatever it takes to boost her morale for her big day”
